Obi Clutch - Seigaiha

Our signature clutch, hand made from vintage 'obi': the sash worn with kimono at formal occasions.

The shimmering Seigaiha adorning this black obi, can be seen on all forms of Japanese design. it was originally used on maps to depict the sea, and was made popular by the artist Seikai Kanshichi.  'Choucho' butterflies, and 'houhou' the mythical immortal bird, can be seen flying around the fabric, amongst 'kiri' paulownia and "take' bamboo flowers.

This vintage Fukuro Obi was sourced from the Osaka area of Japan.  It is over 40 years old, and in excellent condition.

Handmade by self help groups in Cambodia.
