Obi Tote - Momiji and Botan

The KATA OBI TOTE collection is designed to show the exquisite vintage Japanese Obi to its fullest; set in sumptuous soft Italian leather with studded Obi silk base and luxurious kimono silk lining in a contrasting colour.

The Agemaki knot feature originally decorated the helmets of Samurai soldiers in ancient Japan as a form of good luck and protection and will afford you the same!

The black silk obi features the ever popular design motifs of the Momiji and Botan.   Momiji, maple leaves symbolise autumn. Japanese traditionally admire and revere autumnal leaves just as they celebrate blossom in the spring. Momijigari is a celebration of beautiful autumn leaves, started by aristocracy during the Heian era 794 to 1185 AD.  Botan, peonies are known as the King of Flowers in Japan. They represent longevity and steadfastness.

This vintage Obi was sourced from the Osaka area of Japan.  It is approximately 20 to 30 years old, and in excellent condition.

Handmade by self help groups in Vietnam.
